ΕΠΕΜΒΑΤΙΚΗ ΕΝΔΟΣΚΟΠΗΣΗAll categories of endoscopic check-ups for the diagnosis of vital organs, as well as endoscopic operations with high-precision instruments are conducted in the Interbalkan Medical Center.

The hospital has the following Endoscopy Departments:

Gastrointestinal Department – Endoscopy Lab

A fully equipped endoscopy unit for the digestive tract, gastroscopy (duodenum), colonoscopy, polypectomy, hemostasis of bleeding ulcers, vessels and tumors, ERCP, cusp of Vater sphincterotomy , and liver biopsies.

Diagnostic endoscopy takes place on the upper (esophagus, stomach, duodenum) or lower digestive tract (large intestine) to outpatients, in order to determine the damage, perform a biopsy and histologically confirm the diagnosis. With interventional endoscopy, the doctor can remove polyps and small superficial cancers. Moreover, with the help of an X-Ray machine, the doctor can also insert a catheter in the biliary tract and the pancreatic duct.

Lung Endoscopy - Bronchoscopy

Endoscopy refers to the monitoring of the lung (bronchi) with a special instrument, called bronchoscope. It’s a safe method conducted under local anesthesia. A small tube is inserted through the nose to the point of the lung’s damage, collecting cells or tissue sections for a biopsy. Endoscopy can be used for a plethora of respiratory diseases.

The following medical acts are performed in the department of lung endoscopy:

  • Video – Inoscopy
  • Clamps biopsy, transbronchial biopsy TBNA, TBNB
  • Bronchoalveolar lung lavage (BAL)
  • Removal of foreign bodies
  • Bronchial opening, Bronchoplasty
  • Trachea and Bronchi stents

Gynecological Endoscopy (Laparoscopy – Hysterectomy)

Endoscopy is used in gynecology for diagnostic and interventional laparoscopies and hysteroscopy. With laparoscopy, the gynecologist, with the use of a micro camera and through tiny holes in the abdomen can examine the ovaries, the fallopian tubes and the uterus, and can invasively treat endometriosis, ectopic pregnancies, remove fibroids and ovarian cysts, open up adhesions in the fallopian tubes, etc. The advantages of laparoscopic surgery are that it’s a low risk operation, offers better results than laparotomy, minimizes the occurrence of post-operative adhesions, requires much less hospitalization time, and finally has excellent aesthetic results and fast recovery.

In hysteroscopy, with the use of a microcamera, the doctor can examine the uterus cavity, collect material for biopsies and perform operations.

Adopting the hysteroscopic approach compared to the conventional method of laparotomy for the treatment of various pathologies is exclusively due to its great advantages, such as avoiding laparotomy and consequently the formation of abdominal adhesions, as well as the creation of incisions in the uterus, ensuring the possibility for a natural childbirth, requiring short anesthesia (local or partial), guaranteeing a short hospitalization time, having great financial benefits due to the short hospitalization time, and boasting excellent aesthetic results.

Endoscopic surgery, whether laparoscopically or hysteroscopically, in the Interbalkan Medical Center has impressively high success rates.

Urological endoscopy

All the urological organs are accessible for diagnostic and therapeutic reasons (operations) without incisions, with the use of special endoscopic instruments. It can be applied for urethral-cystoscopy, rigid ureteroscopy, flexible ureteroscopy, percutaneous operations, etc.

Urological endoscopies in the Interbalkan Medical Center are conducted without general anesthesia or with extremely mild forms of analgesia. Surgery time is substantially minimized, while patient recovery is impressively fast.

Orthopedic Endoscopy

Orthopedic Endoscopy can be used for the surgical arthroscopy of knees, synovial folds, various patella syndromes, cruciate ligament, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip and ankle ruptures.
